El Gordo

El Gordo lottery is the christmas superdraw of the spanish lottery. Every december the whole of spain goes crazy, the place is brought to a standstill for the superdraw that is El Gordo. It is the biggest prize fund in the world with a total pot of 2.6 billion euro's.

The lottery is organised slightly differently from other lotteries in that it is a raffle ticket style draw. You can buy a single ticket or a 'strip' or 10 decimos. The chances of winning a cash prize are just 1 in 6.

Previously you would have to be a resident of spain to be able to participate in this lottery, but now with e-lottery syndicates you can play from anywhere in the world.
